Went to Doomie’s today for an early dinner and the place definitely lives up to it’s hype. I imagined Doomie’s to be a stand alone restaurant but it’s actually in a shopping center off of Vine St. in Hollywood; works out though because you can easily find parking in the shopping center lot (and finding any kind of parking in Los Angeles is a gift).
Anyways, I was instantly greeted by a waitress who gave me a menu. Trying to decide what to order was so difficult because everything on the menu sounds delicious. I went with the Southern Fried Chicken served with mashed potatoes, a dinner roll and choice of soup or a salad (I got the soup but I can’t remember what the soup was called, but whatever it was, it was good). The fried chicken is without a doubt the most similar thing to meat that I’ve had since becoming vegan. The fried chicken comes with a “leg” and a “breast” of chicken, which is deep fried seitan. Under the crispy breading is a layer of tofu skin followed by the “meat”. There is even put a stick in the chicken to replicate a drumstick. I know many vegans have trouble with things that taste/feel like meat (understandably), but for non-vegans/vegetarians, this entree would be awesome for them to try because it tastes so similar to fried chicken.
