Atlantic City Steer Pier had plans to reopen the horse-diving shows this summer, shows that were a part of the pier from the 1920’s
through the 70’s, but following the massive number of animal rights activists, the Steel Pier decided to scrap plans to bring back the cruel horse-diving show! In just one day from starting a petition on Change.org, over 10,000 people signed the petition and many celebrities including Simone Reyes, Kristin Bauer and Joanna Krupa had also joined in on the campaign. The pier is currently owned by Anthony Catanoso and he told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he isn’t interested in reviving something that made the pier famous last century.
“We just felt that since Atlantic City is moving forward, we should move forward with it,” he said. “We should create new memories for visitors instead of recreating old ones.”
Congratulations to all of the dedicated activists that helped make this victory possible!
