PETA launches XXX site (NSFW)

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has launched their long-awaited XXX adult website, featuring sexy photos and animal abuse. The NSFW domain is the most recent ‘sex sells’ approach by PETA to gain attention to the plight of animals.

“[T]his is the perfect example of sex just being used to draw interest, and then once you’re there on the site, we’re going to hit you with facts that you need to know about the world of animals,” adult-film legend Ron Jeremy said in a Q&A video, welcoming vistors to the website.

What do you think about PETA’s XXX website?

  1. I wrote a blog post about this several months ago. Following is a bit from that post

First does anyone really think that someone going to a porn site is going to be interested in looking at images of animal abuse? People don’t go to porn sites to get educated on the plight of animals or any other topic except maybe sex.

And hasn’t anyone noticed that this is a twisted example of operant conditioning? In the case of the PETA porn site, visitors are given positive reward for going to the site in the form of sexual stimulation. Then after viewing images of animal abuse, the site visitor is again rewarded with more porn. This doesn’t reinforce an aversion to animal abuse, it associates positive stimulation with animal abuse.

The whole idea is wrong on so many levels.

  2. PETA and other animal rights groups have successfully galvanized public opposition against celebrities who wear fur, helping to turn the practice into an ethical and fashion taboo. Now the largest animal rights organization in the world has turned its attention to celebrities who endorse the consumption of animal products.*
