I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Obama has legalized the slaughter of horses for human consumption. Given that you are reading a animal rights blog, I think my position on the issue is clear but this legalization brings to light other issues, that I see as an opportunity for the animal rights movement. Many meat-eaters are repulsed by the thought of a horse being slaughtered, let alone eating horse meat, but why? People have a very strong connection to horses, dogs, cats but yet don’t give a second thought to the cow, pig, chicken on their plate. Why love one animal but yet contribute to the murder of another? The legalization of horse slaughter in the U.S. will (hopefully) allow people who are disgusted by this new change to the law, to think about the animals that end up on their plate in a different way. Want to do something? Sign the petition at Change.org and urge Obama to overturn this repulsive legislation.
